Do you remember?
Seeing people rain from the sky?
Sentenced to die in the sunshine.
Their crime: going to work.
Locking eyes,
Choosing flight,
Final act of rebellion:
To die flying, holding hands, not by fire.

The Week 60 Trifextra weekend thing was to use the words rain, remember, and rebellion, along with 33 words of our own. Though it’s a long time ago now, I’ve always wanted to write something about the people who had to make that terrible decision on that bright blue September day.
we MUST remember – lest we repeat
That’s for sure.
This is really powerful. Stunning tribute. Well done!
Thanks, I appreciate that, Suzanne.
hmm.interesting.
Interesting is better than boring, I’d say.
This was stunning. Tragically remembered.
Yeah, it was a sad day. I still can’t believe it happened.
A breathtaking imagery and tribute to those lost.
I believe we need more tributes to them.
“to die flying…” whoa. That’s powerful.
A terrible choice to have to make, wasn’t it?
Oh, wow. I sit here trying to come up with words to convey what I’m feeling but am failing miserably. You, sir, have my vote. Never forget.
Thanks, Lori. That’s right, we must never forget. They teach about it in school, so hopefully it won’t be forgotten.
May I please link this to my blog?
Of course you may.
You gave me the chills.
Kinda what I was hoping for.
Wow…you captured that day. Beauty in tragedy…your words so well written.
Thank you, Maggie–quite glad you liked it.
Very deep.. Excellent…
Thank you, Fiction Vixen.
Oh and I lover your banner image..x
And thanks again.
It lives in our memory-that tragedy! You captured it beautifully!
Yes it’s one day I wish I could forget, but never will be able to.
So sorry -hope one day the pain will be lesser, best wishes
I try to keep my mind on the choice. Brilliant tribute.
Wasn’t much of a choice, was it?
One of the things that always amazes me about poetry is the ability of the poet to put so much into so few words. You’ve conveyed a lot of emotion, and raised memories for me, in 33 words. It would take me a novel to accomplish the same thing and even then I doubt I could.
I imagine you could accomplish it in a novel just fine. Thanks for reading.
That was a heart touching homage. Great that you used the prompt for keeping alive the memory. No one deserves such a punishment for going abt their lives.
Thanks, Sini, and I couldn’t agree with you more, no one deserved that.
whew – for some reason, that very choice that those people had to make crossed my mind the other day while I was traveling, strangely, through the most serene of places – after work. You worded that so very well. (a little relieved to know that I’m not the only one this still haunts)
I don’t think about that day real often, but yet it’s always in the back of the mind somewhere.
I just wanted you to know that I enjoy your blog so much that I nominated you for the Awesome Award of Epic Awesomeness
